Some heating problems are easily avoided. As a supplement to our previous InfoBite entitled, "Solve Your Problem... BEFORE It Happens!", here are some helpful tips for long equipment life and trouble-free operation from Process Technology.
Once a product has been installed, the most frequent causes of failure typically fall into a few categories:
Low liquid level. Always use liquid level controls and make sure that the thermal protection devices are connected and operating properly. Failure to follow the installation instructions will reduce product service life and could result in dangerous operating conditions and potentially cause a fire.
Buildup. Heaters and exchangers need to be inspected periodically and cleaned when any buildup appears on the product surfaces. This buildup restricts heat transfer, leads to higher internal temperatures, increases corrosion rates and reduces service life.
Physical damage. Heaters and exchangers need to be mounted in locations away from contact with work and protected from splashing, dripping or excessive moisture.
More detailed information regarding selecting and installing these products can be found in our catalog, at our website, and in the installation instructions provided with the products.
